What are the measures we keep in mind to maintain our custom sofas?

When we make custom-made sofas, it handles a lot of difficult time and traffic, as it is a center of attraction for a seating spot. There are many problems we face if not properly maintained, that is, stains, scratches, and the unpleasant odor on the Custom Sofa which is created by the combination of dirt, spilled food and drinks, pets, and moisture.

Tips you should know

The sofas are a magnet for the unpleasant smell. As it is placed in the central location of your space it can absorb odor of every kind. No matter what type of odor is trapped in the sofas. It can easily be removed using the following tips.

Before cleaning and deodorizing your custom sofa make sure to dust off the debris or any loose hair and dirt. Make sure to vacuum it as that alone can help remove the smell without needing any additional cleaning agents.

When vacuuming the sofa start off by removing the cushions from it. Use the fabric nozzle of the vacuum to clean away the dirt from the base, headrest, and arms of the couch.  Vacuum properly on both sides before setting the cushions back to place. If your sofa still is slightly musty an air freshener could help remove that with the pleasant smell.

Homemade remedies to resist odor from sofas

Baking soda can be used as a natural homemade odor remover. This alkaline powder is effective in absorbing and removing hard odors. This powder is nontoxic and cheap, it is also an overnight deodorizing solution too.

To use this, remove the cushions and put them on a flat surface. Sprinkle dust the baking soda on either side of each of the seating cushions as well as on the backrest and the armrests. Let the powder sit on the sofa overnight and then vacuum all the odor-absorbed residue the next day and place back the cushions.

Use white vinegar

When it is a synthetic or a microfiber sofa, white vinegar works best for removing odor along with the essential oils that leave behind a pleasant scent. Lavender oil is mostly used but the choice of it is yours. The recipe ingredients are;

  • Dishwashing soap
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • Any essential oil (preferably lavender)
  • Paper towel
  • Bottle spray

Take a spray bottle and pour warm water in it adding the white vinegar and the essential oil. Adding some drops of the oil helps the cleaner to increase the deodorizing effect. Shake the bottle well after adding up the ingredients, also label it for later use. With some distance, spray the solution over your sofas covering the complete area. Then use towels to wipe up the excess solution.

Use rubbing alcohol

For bacteria causing odor, rubbing alcohol works best, while for urine smells white vinegar works as an enzyme cleaner. You can also add along your favorite essential oil that can freshen up the air and also masks the smell of the cleaning solution.

You’ll need;

  • 1 cup of water
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • ½ cup rubbing alcohol
  • Any essential oil
  • Paper towels
  • Bottle spray

Add up all the ingredients in a spray bottle and mix well. Remove the cushion covers if any and then from a foot distance spray the solution covering the whole area.
